Meet David Martin, General Manager

Meet David Martin, General Manager

Born and raised in New York, for David Martin hospitality isn't just a profession, it’s a passion. This is reflected in his everyday interaction with visitors to Faculty House, chefs in the kitchen and colleagues across campus.

David MartinMartin holds a Bachelors of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Johnson and Wales University. He immediately began work at The Waldorf-Astoria in New York as a Room Service Captain. Over two years, the role taught him an enormous amount about the hospitality industry. “It was very educational. It was my first job and I managed close to 1,000 rooms. I met some of the most interesting people – from Bill Clinton to Frank Sinatra,” Martin recalls.

Having gained on-the-ground experience, Martin applied his management skills to the position of Assistant Restaurant Manager at The Drake Swiss Hotel. In October 1996, an experience of a different kind awaited Martin – a cigar bar. He took on the role of an Assistant General Manager at Club Macanudo, a “fantastic” experience at one of the busiest clubs on the Upper East Side at the time.

Martin then moved to Rihga as the Hotel Director of Room Service and eventually the Director of Outlets. His time at the Rihga was “instrumental in shaping my career. And let’s not forget – it’s also where I met my wife,” he says with a smile.

Martin joined the Faculty House team as General Manager in October 2008. “Coming up to Faculty House was a treat for me. We have been able to transform the venue and make it a special one. We like to say, ‘it's not just a house, it's a home.’ We want you to come back.”

From student events to weddings, business meetings to memorials, Faculty House hosts a wide variety of occasions. Martin is thankful to be part of the Faculty House team. “A lot of employees have been here for years. It's not a job for most of us; it's a way of life. We are proud of it.”
